A Little Bit About Me
My name is Constance McGonigle and this is my third year teaching third grade at Belmont Elementary School. I look forward to the 2009/2010 school year and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with the up and coming third graders.
Before I came to Belmont I went to school at the University of Mary Washington where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Maters of Science in Elementary Education. I have lived in Prince William County for about 15 years and I have always wanted to teach here.

My Philosophy
My student teaching experiences I had while attending the University of Mary Washington helped me develop my teaching philosophy. I do have to say that it has changed some (for the better) now that I have classroom experience as a solo teacher. People learn things in different ways. Some learn better through listening, while others may learn better visually or even kinesthetically. My goal is to teach the material in a variety of ways in order to reach every student. I think most students learn better when they use their hands or some kind of manipulative. I hope to provide many opportunities for hands on learning throughout the year to help students learn and retain the various material that is taught. Students can learn a lot from their peers and teamwork is a great way to allow this type of learning to happen. Students will not only have multiple opportunities to work with other students in their class, but they will also have multiple opportunities to work with students from other classes.

Important Qualities
There are a few qualities I deem very important in every person and I try my best to instill these qualities in my students. I feel that it is very important for students to be respectful; not only to adults, but also to their peers and property. Respect is one of the key qualities that helps students get along and getting along makes teaching a smoother process. Manners are also very important to me. I think it is extremely important for students to speak and act politely. There is less arguing and less room for misunderstandings if students speak politely to everyone. This leads me into teamwork. If students respect one another and use manners when working with others, then teamwork becomes an easy task. Working as a team is an essential skill to possess, especially in adulthood, where is it is necessary in almost every career. Organizational skills are another important quality for students to possess. If they keep their personal space and the classroom as whole clean, it makes it easier for learning to take place and it also helps to keep everyone safe. The last quality I value is being prepared. Just like adults need to be prepared for various tasks, so do students. Students need to study and be prepared for tests and/or presentations that occur throughout the year. These assorted qualities will not only help a student succeed in school, but they will also help the student succeed in life.
